Windows 10 allows you to take screenshots of everything that is displayed on your computer screen by simply pressing the Print Screen key. However, the Windwos 10 operating system incorporates a function that allows you to take selective screenshots, that is, you can take a screenshot of a specific area instead of the entire screen. For this type of screen capture you will have to use the keyboard shortcut: Windows key + Shift + S.

But what happens if when I use the keyboard shortcut Windows Key + Shift + S it doesn’t work? When we use the keyboard shortcut Windows Key + Shift + S on the Windows 10 screen, you will see how it is covered with a white / gray superimposed color. The mouse cursor turns into a plus symbol (+), indicating that selective screen capture mode is on.
It is at this moment that we have to select an area of the screen to line followed by releasing the mouse button. The selected screen area will be automatically copied to the clipboard. However, when you don’t see this happening, something is going wrong and therefore you will have to carry out a series of configurations and modifications to get it activated and used.
In this tutorial we want to show you in detail how to make the keyboard shortcut Windows Key + Shift + S work in the Edge browser so that you can take screenshots of a specific area of the browser screen in Windows 10:
1) Activate the Clipboard history feature
– Access the Windows 10 configuration using the shortcut: Windows key + I
– Go to: System> Clipboard.
– In the central part of the window you will have to activate the function switch: Clipboard History.
2) Enable Cropping and Annotation
– Access Windows settings using the keyboard shortcut: Windows key + I
– Go to: System> Notifications and Actions.
– In the main part of the window you will have to make sure that the Crop and Annotation app is activated.
– If you cannot find the Clip and Annotation app, it may not appear, it may be because it is not installed.
– In this case you must install it from the following link: Clipping and Annotations
3) Reset the Trim & Annotations app
If none of the above methods do not solve the problem and you still cannot use the selective screenshot using the shortcut Windows Key + Ctrl + S, you will only have to reset the Snipping and Annotations app in Windows 10.
– Go to Settings> Applications> Applications and features.
– Locate the Trim and Annotations app and click on it.
– This will reveal the Advanced Options option that you will have to click on.
– You will be directed to a screen where you will have to locate and select the option: Reset.
All these steps should get the selective screen capture function to work correctly in the Edge browser by using the keyboard shortcut: Windows key + Shift + S.
