One of the most important aspects of video games today is the quality of our internet connection, even more so if it is a multiplayer online video game. There are several details that must be taken into account regarding the internet connection when playing video games like Fortnite. Among these important details we find, for example, the Ping, the download speed, the upload speed and as well as the packets lost both on upload and download.

All these details about our internet connection and that they are as important for online video games as Fortnite are known as Network Debugging Statistics. Of all of them the most prominent is probably the Ping, also known as the hated Lag. This means that the game experience can be terrible and even provide an outstanding advantage to your rivals, since between jumps your rivals will be able to eliminate you without you having any room for action.
The Ping or Lag is a term that refers to the existing latency in the network that connects the player with the video game server. Ping is measured in average time in milliseconds. Therefore the goal of each player should be to try to keep the ping as low as possible since the lower the ping, the lower the latency and the lower the delay or Lag that the player will experience.
A low ping is essential for video games such as Fortnite in which a large number of users connect to the same server and in which any millisecond can be an advantage, especially with the large number of good players that this video game currently has. In general, a ping of less than 80ms can be considered acceptable, therefore the closer it is to 1 it will be considered excellent.
However when we play Fortnie with friends from countries usually from other continents, the Ping it usually shoots up to 150 or even more, which makes you at a disadvantage compared to players who are physically on the continent where the server you connect to play is located.
Fortnite has several servers to which you can connect such as: Europe, North America, Japan, Brazil, Korea and Oceania. By default, Fortnite It is configured so that the player will automatically connect to the server closest to your location. However when we play with players from another continent it may happen that Fortnite decide that the game is developed on your partner’s server. But as is evident, your Ping will be affected with an increase that will be a disadvantage compared to other players who are closer to the region of said server.
Example: If I play Fortnite from Spain, by default and automatically I will connect to the European server with a Ping that is usually around 44ms. However, if I decide to play Duo mode with a North American player, Fortnite may decide to have the game played on the North American server. In this case my partner may have a similar ping of 44ms, however mine may be increased to 140ms with the corresponding disadvantage that this may entail.
To know if you play at a disadvantage compared to other users of Fortnite the best thing will be to check your Ping which you can do directly from the video game. Fortnite allows the activation of Network debugging statistics. This function will allow you to know in real time the statistics of your internet connection, among which is the Ping or Lag. If you want to know how to activate it, we will show you step by step how to do it:
How to know the Ping in Fortnite (PC, PS4, Xbox, etc)
It should be noted that to activate the function Network debugging statistics in Fortnite You must be in the server, that is, you cannot activate it from the Fortnite Lobby. You can activate it from the moment you are on the departure island and until the moment of your elimination. Therefore, once you are connected to the server, you must access the video game settings.
Once here you will have to go to the main tab of the Settings represented by the icon Gear. Under this tab you will now see a new section with the name of HUB which you must select to access the configuration under that section.
Here you will have to pay attention to option number 10 counting from the top. Specifically, you will have to place yourself in the option Network Debugging Statistics. You will have to activate this option and save the new configuration by selecting: Apply.
Go back to the game and you will see how from this moment the Fortnite will show several statistics of Red debugging among which is the Ping. The higher this, the higher the Lag and therefore the greatest disadvantage you will have. As is evident, a very high Ping will not only give you a disadvantage compared to your rivals, but the experience and gameplay will deteriorate considerably since packages will begin to be lost and therefore jumps will be experienced in the video game. It may happen that a rival eliminates you and you do not even know them because the elimination has not yet appeared on the screen of your PC or game console.
