There are many who do not follow all of Google’s advice and are therefore more vulnerable to attacks from Hacker or Cybercriminals. This has led to the large and popular hacks conducted in recent years that allowed hackers to gain access to millions of Gmail accounts.
Even with the great security measures that Google offers its users, there are many other internet services that use the same Google credentials to log into that service. This is when a security hole can occur since the hacker can try to get your Google credentials in the logins of third-party services.
Well, now Google allows you to check if any of your users and passwords for third-party services have been stolen and therefore a hacker can access your user account either from said service or even from Google. For this, the Mountain View company has launched the new extension Password Checkup which will check the security of your credentials and will alert you if any of them have been stolen and used by third parties.
The Password Checkup app will check your credentials against a database of more than 4 Billion users and Passwords that have been hacked by third parties. Having said that, in the following guide we indicate the steps to follow to find out if the username and password of any of the services used has been stolen by third parties:
How to know if your login credentials have been stolen.
As is evident, the first thing will be to install the official extension Password Checkup in your browser Google Chrome. You can do this from the following link: download and install the official Google Password Checkup extension.
From the moment the app is installed in the browser, you will see a green icon in the upper right corner of Google Chrome, along with the rest of the installed extensions. As long as the icon remains green, there will be no problem, it means that the credentials used on the website you are on are not among those that have suffered an attack.
On the contrary, if the username and / or password is among those obtained by the hackers, the icon will be shown in red next to a message in which you will be asked to change your password. It is in this case that you will have to change the password of the Web service you are in so that once the change is made you can check how the extension icon turns green indicating that your credentials are now secure.
