iPhone has a default email app called: Mail. This app is not an email service, but rather an email client, that is, an app in which we can connect our email accounts from multiple services to be able to manage all the emails from these accounts. The iPhone Mail app is default and until now, we could not change it, however, this has changed with iOS 14 since now we can configure Gmail as the default mail app on your iPhone.

The mail app is really useful since it allows us to send, receive, delete and ultimately any action in your email accounts from a single application. However, Gmail and its app for iOS has evolved over time and now, in addition to offering email service (@ gmail.com), it also allows you to add email accounts from other services such as Outlook, so that they can be managed also from the Gmail app.
Faced with such an update to the Gmail app, many iPhone owners would like to use the Gmail app as the default Mail app on their iPhone. As we have mentioned, until now iPhone did not allow changing the default mail application for another. However, after the last update of the iOS operating system, this has changed and now we can configure Gmail as the default mail app on your iPhone or iPad.
This change will, for example, mean that when we find an email account in our browser and we decide to send an email to said account, it will automatically open in the Gmail app instead of Mail.
Having said that, below we want to show you step by step how to change the default email app on iPhone for Gmail:

I can’t set Gmail as the default email app for iPhone.
The essential requirement to be able to configure Gmail as the default email on iPhone is to have iOS 14 or later, however, some users report that even with the operating system updated, they still do not see the setting: Default email app.
This is because we have the outdated Gmail app. Gmail only allows setting as default on iPhone after version: 6.0.200.825.
Therefore, to make this feature available on your iPhone, make sure that the Gmail app installed on your iPhone is updated to the latest version.
