How to disable the Windows 10 programmable taskbar

March 3, 2021 by whyisdown Leave a Comment

The Windows 10 operating system incorporates new functions in each update that Microsoft launches. One of the latest features added to Windows 10 is the Programmable Taskbar, the objective of which is to customize the default set of icons displayed on the taskbar based on the applications and services in which you use your Microsoft account. .

how to disable the programmable taskbar in Windows 10

Related: How to resize the Windows 10 taskbar

Windows 10’s programmable taskbar will pin certain icons based on your user activity. For example, if you have your Microsoft account linked to your Xbox, your taskbar will automatically show the Xbox icon for quick and easy access to this service. In addition, these icons may appear or disappear depending on the use we make of the services and applications with which we link our Microsoft account.

The purpose of this feature is to offer Windows 10 users more personalized and highly accessible content directly from the taskbar. The feature is part of Windows 10 20H2, but it will not work on computers using existing Microsoft accounts. In order to take advantage of this function, you will have to create a new Microsoft account in order to enjoy the personalized icons on the taskbar.

However, it should be noted that for Microsoft to display the custom icons on the Windows 10 taskbar based on your activity, it must collect diagnostic data and uses of users to evaluate and identify which app or service is in the one that each user would be interested in accessing from the taskbar.

This is precisely something that can be somewhat controversial in terms of privacy, apart from the fact that there are many users who want to have full control of their taskbar settings and prevent Microsoft from including items automatically. This is why many users wonder how to deactivate this function and below we show you how to do it:

How to disable the Windows 10 programmable taskbar.

Method 1: Disable Windows 10 Schedule Taskbar using Local Group Policy Editor.

2. In the Run tool window you will have to enter the following command:

4. Use the menu on the left side of the window to navigate to;

Configuracion de equipo > Plantillas Administrativas > Componentes de Windows > Contenido de la nube.

5. Now, in the right part of the window you will see the option that you must select: disable optimized content in the cloud.

6. This opens a configuration window in which you will have to check the option: Enabled

7. To save the new configuration you will have to click on the button: Apply and then in To accept.

Note: If at any time you want to reactivate this function, you just have to follow the same steps but you will have to check the Disabled option.

Method 2: Use Registry Editor to disable the Windows 10 programmable taskbar

* This method can be used by all users regardless of the version of Windows 10 they have, including Windows 10 Home.

1. Open Notepad and paste the following code inside it:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindowsCloudContent]
"DisableCloudOptimizedContent"=dword:00000001

2. Within the notepad, you will have to click on: File> Save as …

3. In the new window you will have to choose the location where to save the file.

4. In the Type section, make sure to check the option: All files.

5. In username you will have to provide the following: Disable_Programmable _Taskbar.reg

6. When everything is configured correctly, you only have to click on: save.

7. Locate the newly created file and double click on it to run it.

8. You will be shown a warning message asking if you want to continue with the process that you will have to accept.

9. From this moment on, the programmable taskbar will be completely deactivated.

Note: If you want to activate the programmable taskbar again, you will have to open the Windows 10 registry editor and access the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindowsCloudContent

Once here you will have to configure the CludContent key with the value: 0

Formatting all files in Windows 10

March 2, 2021 by whyisdown Leave a Comment

The amount of threats that we can find on the internet are many and varied. Sometimes it is enough to download a file so that your Windows computer ends up infected with a virus that, for example, changes all the extensions (formats) that prevents you from opening them correctly due to said extension change.

how to fix the problem with changing file formats in windows 10

Related: How to open multiple programs at once in Windows 10 with one click

The extension of a file in Windows 10 is the indicator that allows the operating system to identify the program with which the file can be opened. If the program to which a file extension corresponds is not installed on your Windows 10 computer, this file will not be able to be opened or it will not be opened correctly if a compatible program is not used.

Some of the viruses that can be found on the Internet attack precisely this link between files and the programs that can open it. Its purpose is to change all or most of the file formats stored on your computer so that the appropriate application or program cannot be found to open it.

As we have mentioned, changing the file extension implies changing the format but also the file icon. In general, the files show the icon of the program capable of opening it, so if a virus changes this file format in Windows 10, the icons of these files will also change to those of programs with which you will not be able to open them.

Sometimes, it is possible that this problem is not due to a virus but to a misconfiguration of the default programs to open depending on which files. However, if this happens to all files, it is most likely that it is a virus, so the first thing you will have to do is scan your Windows 10 operating system with your antivirus program.

If the scan is successful, finding and removing all the infected files that caused the problem, then it is time to reset the default association so that these files can be opened with the specific programs.

Having said that, below we show you step by step how to solve the problem of changing the extensions of all the files on your Windows 10 computer:

Fix: All file extensions changed on my Windows 10 computer.

Method 1: Reset Default Values in Windows 10 Settings

Go to the settings using the keyboard shortcut: Windows key + I

Once here go to: Apps> Default apps.

all files have changed extension in windows 10

On this screen you will have to scroll down until you find the option: Reset the defaults that Microsoft recommends.

Next to this option you will have to click on the button:Restore.

Method 2: Delete UserChoice folder

If the first method does not help, we recommend that you carry out this second method.

Open the Windows 10 Registry Editor

Once here go to the following route:

EquipoHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerFileExts

Expand the folder FileExts from the menu on the left side of the window. Here you will see a list of folders with the file extensions.

You will have to expand each of them, one by one, check if there is a folder called UserChoice.

If you find it, you must delete it by right clicking on it and in the menu selecting the option Get rid of

March 2, 2021 by whyisdown Leave a Comment

If you have a computer with Windows 10 you will know that you can do that when the operating system starts we can also make certain programs start automatically. However, this can lead to slower startup of your computer. It is highly recommended that programs start after the operating system has started and there is the option to open multiple programs at the same time with just one click.

Related: How to create .bat file to run commands in CMD automatically. (Windows)

Sometimes Windows 10 users always use the same programs, for example in my case, the browser and the text editor, they are programs that I literally always start and use at every startup of my Windows 10 computer. This means that once started my computer, I have to at least search for two programs and click on each of them to open them.

Many users including myself, it would be much better if with just one click I could open all the programs that I always need to open in one go. Windows 10 is configured by default so that each program has to be opened individually, so the user will have to click on each of the shortcuts of the programs you want to open.

Fortunately, Windows 10 allows you to create a Direct Access thanks to which we can open all the programs we want at the same time with just one click. Windows 10 does not offer this function graphically in its interface but we will have to create the shortcut manually.

That said, below we show you in detail how to create a shortcut in Windows 10 that allows us to open several programs at the same time with just one mouse click:

How to open multiple programs at once with just one click on a Windows 10 shortcut.

1. The first thing you will have to do is find the destination path of each and every one of the programs that you want to open at the same time. This can be done by searching for the program from Windows 10 search.

2. When the program is displayed in the search result, you will have to right click with the mouse to later select the option: Open file location.

3. This will take you to the directory where the executable file for that program resides.

4. Here you will have to click with the right mouse button to select the option in the context menu: Properties.

5. This opens a small window in which you will have to go to the tab: Direct access.

6. Now locate the section Destination Y copy the destination path shown here.

7. The next step will be to open Notepad and write the following:

8. Press enter type:

9. After pressing space, you must paste the destination path of the program which will include quotes at the beginning and end of it.

10. Press Enter again and type:

Start NombreArchivoEjecutable

Example: start firefox.exe

11. Once the cd and start lines have been created for the first program, you must repeat these lines with all the programs you want to start with a single click.

12. Finally once all the programs have been added, you will have to add at the end:

13. In this way the notepad should look like this (example with Firefox, Notepad ++ and Photoshop programs):

@echo off

cd “C: Program Files Adobe Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit) Photoshop.exe”

start Photoshop.exe

cd “C: Program Files Mozilla Firefox firefox.exe”

start firefox.exe

cd “C: Program Files Notepad ++ notepad ++. exe”

start notepad ++. exe

exit

windows 10 allows you to open several programs at the same time with a single click

14. When everything is added to the Notepad document, click File> Save As

15. A new window will open and in the Type section mark the option: All the files (*.*)

16. Give the file a name followed by .bat and click save anywhere in the operating system (we recommend not doing it on the desktop)

17. When the file is already created we will have to right click on the desktop of our computer and in the context menu you have to select: New> Shortcut.

open multiple programs with one click in windows 10

18. Now a window will open in which you will have to indicate the path of the newly created file.

19. After clicking on the next button, a shortcut will be created on the desktop of your Windows 10 computer.

20. Now all you have to do is click on the newly created shortcut, which will open all the programs that we include in the .bat file.

open more than one program with one click in windows 10

Without a doubt, this is a very useful option for users who always use several programs at the same time since you will not have to open them one by one. In addition, this avoids having to start them during the startup of your computer and operating system, so it will not slow down the start of your computer.
